Hervé Di Rosa
Hôtel 56 - 4-star hotel in Bordeaux
art without borders
Hervé Di Rosa invites himself to Le 56
At the Hôtel Le 56 Paludate, we are keen to honour the artists who make Bordeaux and beyond so vibrant. Among them, Hervé Di Rosa occupies a special place: a free, abundant, unclassifiable artist, whose colourful universe echoes our vision of a lively, open and curious place.
A pioneer of Figuration Libre
Born in Sète in 1959, Di Rosa is one of the founders of the Figuration Libre movement, which in the 1980s overturned the codes of contemporary art by drawing inspiration from popular culture: comic strips, graffiti, advertising, cartoons... An art that is joyful, committed and accessible, far from elitist.
But Di Rosa's work goes much further: he travels the world, from Cuba to South Africa via Vietnam, soaking up local know-how and collaborating with craftsmen from all horizons. It's a unique approach that gives rise to a hybrid, vibrant and generous body of work.
An ambassador for modest art
It was in Bordeaux in 2000 that he founded the MIAM - Musée International des Arts Modestes (in Sète), a veritable manifesto for art that is plural, popular and uninhibited.
By bringing Di Rosa into our world, we're celebrating this free art, this unprejudiced view of the world, this energy that echoes the spirit of 56 Paludate: creative, cosmopolitan, vibrant.
A collection to discover at the heart of the hotel
When you stay with us, you will discover a unique collection of original works by Di Rosa, carefully integrated into our communal areas and some of our rooms. Each piece tells a story, inviting you on a visual journey between popular cultures and contemporary imagination.
